Iowa State Team participates in National Collegiate Landscape Competition
Iowa State University horticulture students attended the National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC) at Alamance Community College in North Carolina March 14-17, 2018. Participants in the three-day event demonstrated their skills in 30 real-world competitive events and networked with some of the top industry companies as well as dozens of the biggest industry manufacturers and suppliers. The team from Iowa State was among the more than 700 top landscape and horticulture students from two- and four-year colleges across the country.

A group of sixty student leaders in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences were honored for receiving the Fred Foreman Scholarship for Growth in Leadership Participation. The Foreman Scholarship is awarded to top students who serve the college through leadership roles as peer mentors, club officers and competitive teams with a preference for students in activities that assist in recruiting prospective students.

Iowa State University students serve as Peer Mentors in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Over 150 upper class students will be serving as Peer Mentors in the more than 20 Iowa State University Learning Communities with ties to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) for the 2017-2018 academic year. Mentors help new students in the college make the transition to life at Iowa State. These selected Peer Mentors are often involved with organizing study groups, social events, and out-of-class activities. Iowa State places at National Collegiate Landscape Competition Event
This year nine students from the Iowa State University Department of Horticulture competed at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC) sponsored by the National Association of Landscape Professionals at Bringham Young University in Provo, Utah. Students were led by Ann Marie VanDerZanden, professor in horticulture, Landscape Club advisor & NCLC coach.

Iowa State University students gain a global perspective on agriculture and life sciences
More than 120 students saw agriculture and the life sciences first-hand in countries around the world through various study abroad programs over the summer. The Ag Study Abroad Office offers students the chance to select a program based on their interest in the topic and the location. Through trips offered over breaks in the academic year, during the summer and semester-long exchanges or internships, students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences have been on all seven continents studying agriculture and life sciences.
